In September 2024, Diamond Offshore was acquired by Noble Corporation plc in a strategic stock-plus-cash transaction valued at approximately $1.6 billion. This merger has strengthened Noble’s position as a leading offshore driller, creating the largest fleet of seventh-generation dual-BOP drillships in the industry and adding approximately $2 billion to Noble’s backlog. The combined entity now operates a fleet of 41 rigs, including 28 floaters and 13 jackups, with a total backlog of $6.7 billion. Diamond’s five conventional deepwater and midwater rigs, which have averaged above 85% utilization over the last three years, bring strong forward contract coverage, enhancing Noble’s operational capabilities and market presence. Following the acquisition, Patrice Douglas from Diamond’s board was appointed to Noble’s board of directors, marking a seamless integration of the two companies. This transformative acquisition positions the combined entity to deliver enhanced value to customers and shareholders while continuing to drive innovation in the offshore drilling sector.
